Source: MAERSK LINE
Fresh fruit exporters from Ecuador will now be able to realise their business opportunities in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea markets as Maersk Line launches the direct weekly service from Latin America to the Black Sea. Effective 25 September, Ecumed will provide the fastest transit time between these markets along with the best in class reefer facilities to support the export of fruits.

"Transporting bananas in containers is no longer something of the future, but how it is done today and how new markets are developed. With Ecumed we support our customers' adaptation to containerisation as we cut up to ten days of transportation time by providing the direct service to the Black Sea market from Latin America," said Anders Koksbang, Vice President, Maersk Line.

The service will deploy 8 x 2500 TEU vessels with the following rotation:

Guayaquil – Balboa – Manzanillo – Algeciras – Izmit Korfezi – Ambarli – Novorosiysk– Yuzhny (Odessa) – Ambarli – Izmit Korfezi – Algeciras – Balboa– Guayaquil

The first westbound call for the service is from Algeciras, Spain on 25 September with NedLloyd Juliana and the first eastbound call for the service is from Guayaquil, Ecuador on 4 October with Maersk Nottingham.

At the forefront

In 2009 Maersk Line supported the fresh fruit exporters by launching Ecubex service which significantly improved transportation time from Latin America to St. Petersburg. The direct and fast container service into Northern Russia changed the fundamentals of banana trade and now, as a natural step, Maersk Line is extending this opportunity further into the Black Sea.

Top in schedule reliability

Maersk Line has ranked number 1 amongst the top 20 carriers for 10 out of last 12 quarters, as per Drewry Shipping Consultants-Schedule Reliability Insight Q2-2011.  Consistent capturing of top spots for schedule reliability is one of our main drivers and this will also be a trade mark for Ecumed.

Technology leader in reefer transportation

With the leadership in reefer technology Maersk Line provides the best transportation for perishable fruits.  Its reefers run on Quest, a software that ensures quality and energy efficiency in storage and transport of agro materials. Moreover, Maersk Line’s StarCare technology ensures the controlled atmosphere container protect the quality of fruits such as bananas optimally.
